Level 5 cut resistance without a heavy sleeve.

A knitted HPPE pair, 39.4 cm long and 12.7 cm wide, with thumb holes, for gutter edges, brambles and anything else that scores an arm.

The cut edge of a gutter guard is sharp, brambles are worse, and the arm is what goes in first. These are knitted sleeves rather than armour: you can wear them for an afternoon and forget they are on.

They are cut with a wider 12.7 cm body than most, which is the difference between a sleeve you wear and one that stops your circulation by the second hour. Washable and fully reusable.

HPPE is a high performance polyethylene fibre. Knitted into a sleeve it resists a blade drawn across it far better than cotton, which is what a cut resistance level describes, and it does that while staying light enough to wear in warm weather.

Level 5 is a cut resistance rating, and it is worth being precise about what it covers. It describes resistance to a blade drawn across the fabric. It is not puncture protection, so it will not stop a nail or a screwdriver.

The thumb holes are the practical detail. Without them a sleeve migrates up the arm inside twenty minutes of reaching overhead, which is exactly the movement gutter work is made of.

They wash and go back on. Wash them without fabric softener, which coats the fibre and takes the grip out of the knit.
